The story by Donna Tart won the 2014 Pulitzer Prize and was turned into a movie of the same name. The centerpiece of the story was the way the painting by the 17th Century, Dutch artist, Carel Pietersz Fabritius became an anchor in the swirl of events that surrounded the young Theodore Decker. l found this to be a captivating painting and found myself wondering how the gold finch dealt with the illusion of freedom created by the short chain attached to the nesting box.
