Still life paintings often contain varying degrees of symbolism but for me, this painting is about the light draping across the grouping. Mother Nature made the crab apples, artisans made the linen table cloth, the bowl, pewter cake stand and pitcher. While these models never tire (or move) you do sometimes run the risk of the edible ones ending up on a charcuterie board! These jolly little crab apples became part of a sangria.
